How to build a deck part 2

Hello,

If you have read my earlier post on how to flash a deck ledger board, you can move onto this step.

Once the ledger-board has been correctly  installed you can move onto the layout procedures.

What do I mean by that?

You want to establish your 16″ o.c ( 16″ on-center-layout) to ensure equal  spacing for your decking.

To do this, simply hook your tape to the left side or right side of the ledger board. Then move away from the hooked end and start marking 16, 32, 48, and so forth with an X back method.

Now, if you have already framed your box up and are ready to layout the joists, you’ll need to start your layout differently.

What do I mean by that?

You’ll need to hook your tape to the outer joist and begin the layout from there vs’ laying out from the ledger without the joist in place. So start by making marks as followed: 15 1/4,  31 1/4,  47 1/4, so forth, always subtracting 3/4 of an inch from the centers.

I hope this helps.. If not, you know the drill!

Thanks..
